Head to the back of Bløm Mead + Cider for Cold Truth’s vegan soft serve in a handmade gluten-free waffle cone. The Detroit-born business opened here this spring after founder Tim Mahoney asked his followers where to expand. They pointed him to Bløm.
“And once we found out more about them and how they care about craft and how they serve the community, it just seemed like a perfect fit,” Mahoney said.
Made From Real Food Cold Truth starts with coconut cream and Michigan beet sugar, rather than a premade mix. MLive reported in April that the cream comes from Southeast Asia and the soft serve is prepared at the company’s commissary kitchen in Detroit’s Eastern Market.
“Our soft serve is actually kind of hard,” Mahoney said of the production process.
The flavors come from real food. Cold Truth also works with local-minded collaborators on special offerings.
What to Order The October lineup includes Bläk Sesame, Ube, Matcha and Sweet Cream, dressed up with googly eyes, devil horns and candy corn noses for Halloween. Go for the waffle cone. It’s handmade and gluten-free.
