Mothfire Brewing Co. has been pouring beer at 713 W. Ellsworth Rd. since 2023. With 16 taps, a spacious patio, and food trucks throughout the week, it's a good spot to grab a pint without heading downtown. Kids and dogs are welcome, too.
Meet the People Behind Mothfire Co-founder Noah Kaplan is an artist and longtime craft beer enthusiast. David Becker, his fellow co-founder, has a background in environmental sustainability and a focus on sourcing ingredients from Michigan farms.
Head brewer Alexis Jorgensen has spent more than a decade making beer, including a stint at Stone Brewing in California. Local beer fans might know her from Witch's Hat and Wolverine.
What's on Tap RoHo Joe is a good place to start. The vanilla coffee stout is brewed with Zingerman's coffee and conditioned on bourbon vanilla beans. For something stronger, How Many Skulls is an imperial stout aged in Two James rye whiskey barrels.
Fresh Hop Phraze is another one to look for, especially if you like hazy IPAs. It's brewed with whole-cone Michigan Cash hops, with fresh-hop releases typically arriving around the fall harvest. Check the tap list to see if it's available.
Beer isn't the only option. Mothfire makes hard seltzer cocktails, including a Spiced Cider with apple cider, lemon juice, and cardamom bitters. There are non-alcoholic drinks as well.
Food, Coffee, and Hours Mothfire is open Monday through Thursday from 4 to 10 PM, Friday and Saturday from noon to 10 PM, and Sunday from noon to 8 PM.
Wahoosh BBQ is scheduled for Mondays and Tuesdays, while Carrozza Pizza covers Wednesday through Sunday. It's worth checking the food truck schedule before heading over.
Mothfire also has a morning crowd. Sundazed Coffee & Matcha serves coffee Friday through Tuesday from 7 AM to noon, well before the brewery opens for beer.
You can bring outside food, and beer is available to-go. One perk for dog owners is that pups are allowed inside the taproom, too. Bring yours up to the bar, where there's even a treat waiting.
Planning a Visit? If Fresh Hop Phraze is on tap, grab it while you can. Otherwise, RoHo Joe is a solid pick for anyone who likes coffee and stout in the same glass. Pair either with a pizza from Carrozza and claim a patio seat.
