Walk into Sandy's Boutique on Washington Street and you'll find a large portrait of the woman behind the name. That's Sandra Kane, the grandmother who inspired owner Jill Bean Greco to open the shop in 2023.
Greco built Sandy's around her grandmother's personality: fierce, fashionable and always moving. When the Ann Arbor Observer visited shortly after the opening, Greco said she wanted shoppers to feel that same confidence in what they wore. The portrait wasn't just decoration, either. Greco brought her then-90-year-old grandmother, who was living with Alzheimer's, into the finished shop and said seeing the portrait gave them an emotional half hour of lucidity together.
Today, Sandy's carries contemporary women's clothing and accessories from brands including GANNI, STAUD, Veronica Beard, THE GREAT., Jenni Kayne, Heartloom and more. The mix ranges from dresses and sweaters to denim, shoes and accessories, with the store describing its style as “high-quality, Midwest casual.”
The shop itself has another piece of Ann Arbor history. Sandy's sits at 116 E. Washington St., in part of the former Arbor Brewing Company space. Find Sandy's at 116 E. Washington St. Current regular hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 AM–6 PM, and Sunday, 11 AM–4 PM, with the shop closed Monday.
