Morning, Ann Arbor! Last week, Kendall Jenner unexpectedly stopped by A2. While on a midwest tour promoting her 818 Tequila brand, the supermodel/Keeping Up With The Kardashians star threw darts in a student’s living room and took a boober (bike uber) tour across campus.

☕️ Starbucks Closing: After 18 years in business, Starbucks has announced they will close their downtown Main and Liberty location on October 28. The announcement comes one year after the store voted to unionize in June 2022. A Starbucks representative stated their decision to close the location was based on operational and performance challenges and was not related to the store’s decision to unionize.

🩺 Breakthrough Cancer Treatment: The FDA has approved the use of histotripsy, a new, non-invasive cancer treatment developed by U of M researchers, for liver treatment in humans. An alternative to chemotherapy and radiation treatment, histotripsy uses hyper-focused sound waves to break down tumors. An awesome 5-minute explainer video from Michigan Medicine.

🚲 Bike Parking Lots: To better support the city’s bike focus, the City of Ann Arbor and the Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority have created an interest form for local businesses that would like to have a bike parking facility added near their location. Any interested businesses can follow this link to start an application.

🦩 Flamingo Sighting: State birders are on high alert after a group of duck hunters in Sebewaing, Michigan claimed a pink flamingo landed among their decoys on Saginaw Bay. If confirmed, the sighting would mark the first wild American flamingo seen in the state. Unfortunately, since the initial report, researchers have had no luck finding the “mega rare” bird.

🐕 Pit Bull Ban: A month after enacting a controversial ban on pit bulls, Gross Point Shores repealed the legislature. In a 4-3 city council vote, the ruling was reversed by the same narrow margin it originally passed by. The decision drew mixed reactions from residents.

🚙 Carpool Lanes: In an effort to boost ride-sharing and reduce emissions, Michigan is poised to create the first carpool lanes in the state on a section of I-75 in Oakland County. Made possible by two new laws that grant the Michigan Department of Transportation the authority to designate carpool lanes (formally known as high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes) on new federally-funded highway projects, the lanes will be accessible to vehicles traveling with two or more passengers.
