🐟 Great Lake Goldfish: Feral goldfish, often released from home aquariums, are becoming an ecological menace in the Great Lakes. The invasive fish are out-competing native species, growing to large sizes, and rapidly reproducing. Biologists are asking the public to not release household goldfish into the wild.
🔋 DTE Rate Hike: The Michigan Public Service Commission has approved a 6.4% rate increase for DTE Energy. The price increase, part of a larger $368 million rate hike, is aimed at funding improvements to DTE's grid and accelerating its transition to clean energy (to meet the state’s goal of running on 100% clean energy by 2040). The increased price rate will go into effect on December 15.
🗳️ Candidate Pete Buttigieg: Rumors have swirled that current U.S. Transportation Secretary (and former Presidential candidate) Pete Buttigieg may be eyeing Michigan’s Senate seat in 2024 or the governor’s office in 2026. Buttigieg, a Michigander since last year, avoided directly answering the rumors in an interview last week.
🚗 Wireless Charging Road: Detroit has opened the first wireless electric vehicle charging road in the country. The quarter-mile stretch of road on 14th Street in Corktown features below-surface inductive-charging coils that can charge electric vehicles while in motion or stationary. The cutting-edge technology is seen as a major step forward for the automotive industry and Michigan as a whole.
