🎨 New Murals Will Guide You from Parking to the Farmers Market

Getting from your car to the tomatoes just got more colorful. New murals and sidewalk art are going in around Kerrytown, guiding you from the Ann Ashley structure to the Farmers Market. It's the work of Memphis muralist Brandon Gaia Marshall and Detroit artist Jesse Kassel, with the DDA and the Ann Arbor Art Center. Look for a mural on the structure's north side, sidewalk art along Miller and Catherine, and a ground mural waiting at the market. Concentrate

🎸 Morgan Wallen Takes Over the Big House This Weekend

The biggest name in country music is playing Michigan Stadium two nights in a row, July 24 and 25. Gates open at 4:30, he's on by 5:30, and it's a wrap by 11:30. This is only the second concert the Big House has ever hosted, after Zach Bryan and John Mayer packed in a record 112,000 last fall. And a friendly warning for the Old West Side crowd: there are fireworks both nights. So if you hear booms around 11pm, don't panic. That's just Wallen sending everybody home. University Record

🎻 A Grammy-Nominated Quartet Is Coming to The Ark

Mark your calendar for Aug. 16. American Patchwork Quartet, the roots group founded by two-time Grammy winner Clay Ross, brings its blend of jazz, Indian classical vocals, and Americana to The Ark for a single uninterrupted set. Their debut album picked up a nomination for Best Folk Album at this year's Grammys. Doors open at 7 p.m., show starts at 7:30, tickets run $29 to $40. The Ark

🎪 The Art Fair Pushed Through a Smoky Week

Nearly a half million people usually show up for the Art Fair, and this year's crowd didn't let hazy skies stop them. Wildfire smoke drifting in from Canada pushed air quality to hazardous levels Thursday, and organizers gave artists the option to close early at 3 p.m. and reopen at noon Friday. Fewer than a dozen of the fair's roughly 1,000 artists chose to close, and the fair ran its full hours through Saturday as planned. MLive

🏗️ A 20-Acre South Side Development Clears a Hurdle

Big plans for South State Street. Arbor South, a brownfield redevelopment from Oxford Companies and Crawford Hoying, is moving ahead on a 20-acre site off South State and Eisenhower Parkway. The mixed-use project will add roughly 93,500 square feet of commercial space alongside more than 1,000 residential units, a hotel, and public green space. "It's creating density, it's creating walkable, livable spaces within underutilized areas of the city," said Oxford's Andy Andre. Michigan Daily

🌮 A Taco Festival Is Taking Over the Farm Council Grounds

Get your appetite ready for July 31 through Aug. 2. Ann Arbor Taco Fest returns to the Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds with more than 30 taco trucks, two bars, lucha libre wrestling, and live music across two stages. Friday runs 5 to 10 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday noon to 7 p.m. Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the gate. Ann Arbor Observer

🏥 Michigan Medicine's CEO Is Headed to Vanderbilt

After more than a decade at Michigan Medicine, David Miller is taking over as president and CEO of Vanderbilt Health and dean of its medical school, effective Jan. 1. Miller has led Michigan Medicine since July 2025 and previously oversaw the system's clinical affairs. He'll stay on through Dec. 1 to help with the transition. "Michigan Medicine has been far more than my workplace," Miller said. "It has been my professional home." University Record 

📚 U-M Regents Approve a New Library Repository

A decade-long vision just moved forward. The Board of Regents approved the design phase for a new library repository near U.S. 23 and Geddes Road, meant to house the bulk of U-M's 9 million print volumes plus rare maps, manuscripts, and archival material currently scattered across 13 aging campus locations. The climate-controlled facility will sit just five miles from Central Campus, close enough to keep delivery times short. University Record 

🏛️ City Council Weighs a Pause on New Short-Term Rentals

Council takes up a proposal today, Monday, July 20, for a six-month moratorium on new short-term rental licenses while the city studies their impact on housing. The resolution, sponsored by Mayor Christopher Taylor and three council members, would also direct staff to recommend possible changes to the rules. The city currently counts 295 licensed short-term rentals, plus what the resolution calls "several hundred" unregistered ones. MLive
