🍔 Restaurant Watch: Three new downtown restaurants have popped up over the past few weeks. A quick overview:
YMCA 🤝 Teachers: As a thank you for their hard work throughout the school year, the Ann Arbor YMCA is offering complimentary summer memberships to all K-12 educators, faculty, and staff in Washtenaw County. Available from June 17 to August 31, the membership provides access to the YMCA’s pool, gym, and fitness center. Interested locals can sign up here with the discount code “K12EDU”.
🔍 Human Remains Found: Last week construction workers discovered a human bone while excavating for the new U of M residence hall at Elbel Field. The bone was found beneath the old railroad tracks in front of the marching band practice field. A forensic team and state police are investigating the discovery.

đź’Ť Mackinaw City Fort Ring: An archaeological dig at Colonial Michilimackinac uncovered a 1700s brass ring. Originally constructed as a trading village along the Straits of Mackinac, Colonial Michilimackinac was built in 1715 before being demolished in 1783. Colonial Michilimackinac has been an archeological dig site since 1959 - making it one of the oldest archaeology dig programs in North America.
💊 Rite Aids Closing: According to reports from the Detroit Free Press, Rite Aid is set to close all stores in Michigan. The closures, part of a broader shutdown since the company’s 2023 bankruptcy filing, will begin in waves starting in July. All prescription services will be transferred to Walgreens.
đźš” Lawmaker Arrested: Michigan House Rep. Neil Friske (R-Charlevoix) was taken into custody by Lansing Police at 3 AM on Thursday morning. Sources say Friske was arrested while chasing a Deja Vu adult dancer after a disagreement. While an investigation is still ongoing, the police department has requested felony charges of sexual assault, assault, and a weapons offense for the 62-year-old lawmaker currently campaigning for reelection.
