🍎 AAPS Free Meals: Last week Jazz Parks, the AAPS Superintendent, sent an email out to families warning them that without a state budget passing, AAPS will be forced to halt their free breakfast and lunch program on October 1. The district says universal meals will continue through Sept. 30, but after that, only students who qualify via the Education Benefit Form would get free or reduced-price meals unless Lansing restores funding.

🐔 Raising Cane’s: According to a press release launched last week, Raising Cane’s is set to open at 1116 S. University on September 16th. It’ll be the restaurant’s third Michigan spot, joining East Lansing and Canton. The South U. location is working to hire 140 crew members ahead of opening day.

♻️ Drop-Off Station Passes: The city now offers a free annual pass for the Drop-Off Station at 2950 E. Ellsworth Road. The pass waives the $3 gate fee, but regular disposal fees still apply for large items and hard-to-recycle materials. The site accepts appliances, electronics, building materials, compostables and more. You can apply for a free pass here.

😢 Buckeye Tears: Last week, Ohio State filed a notice of opposition with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to block The Brown Jug from trademarking “Buckeye Tears” for beer and liquor products. OSU argues the phrase could cause confusion and dilute its “Buckeyes” brand. The Brown Jug has until October 6 to respond.
