🥐 Orijin Bakery Opened Last Week, Sold Out Almost Every Day

Sava Farah of Sava's and the Dixboro Project teamed up with pastry chef Jin Capobianco Gorian to open Orijin at 617 E. Liberty St. (where Molly's Cupcakes used to be). Downstairs there is a room used for nothing but making croissants. Coffee is RoosRoast, tea is Arbor Teas, and there is a gluten-free cookie called the Dixb-oreo. Open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, or until they sell out. They had an incredible first week and the line was out the door everyday. Yup, we’re obsessed too. Orijin

🎓 Meet UM's Next President: Cybele Raver
The University of Michigan picked Vanderbilt provost C. Cybele Raver as its 17th president on Aug. 18. Regents formally vote to approve her Sept. 1, and she starts Dec. 1, taking over a school that's churned through three presidents in the last five years. She'll hit the ground running: Michigan Medicine needs a new CEO and the athletic department needs a new AD, both seats she'll have to fill almost right away. 🏢 2,300 New Beds Open on Central Campus

Wolverine Village opens this week: five residence halls and a dining hall, the first U-M housing built specifically for first-year students since 1963. It lifts undergraduate housing capacity about 25%. Each hall is themed to one of the Great Lakes, laundry is included in the room rate, and the 800-seat dining hall is the first all-electric kitchen on campus. Building 5 is named for Dr. E. Royster Harper, the first building here named for a Black woman. The University Record

🏆 A Backyard Major Just Wrapped Up at Barton Hills
The U.S. Senior Women's Open we told you about a few weeks back had its finish this weekend, and it was a nail-biter. Maria McBride carried a four-shot lead into Sunday at Barton Hills Country Club, then watched it evaporate with three early bogeys. She steadied herself with a chip-in eagle on the par-5 9th, closed with birdies on 14 and 16, and held off fellow Swede Annika Sorenstam by two shots to finish six-under for the week. 🚴🏻‍♂️Walk the Division Street Bikeway on Tuesday

The city wants eyes on the Division Street bikeway extension before final plans get drawn. A walking tour leaves the Catherine and Division corner Tuesday at 5 p.m. and finishes at Broadway. Can't make it? There is another tour Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. and an open house Sept. 23 at the DDA's Kerrytown office. The work also replaces a water main from the 1880s. 🏢 A 16-Story Student Tower Just Opened Downtown
Hub William, the new 16-story high-rise at 333 E. William St. next to the downtown library, opened its doors to tenants this week. It's got a rooftop pool deck with Big House views, a "trophy room" lounge with ping pong and shuffleboard, and a spa with a Killers lyric painted over the plunge pools. Studios start around $2,649 a month, with per-bed rates in shared units running $1,399 to $1,750. Hub William 

🏢The Dean Clears the Planning Commission

An updated plan for The Dean, a 14-story apartment building on East Madison between Fourth and Fifth, across from Elbel Field, has won a recommendation from the Planning Commission. The project grew to 10 parcels and about 240 units after the developer picked up more land. All-electric appliances, and parking on site. WEMU
