πΊπΈ A 60-Year Tradition on Frederick Drive
The Glacier Highlands Memorial Day parade rolls again this morning, starting at 10 a.m. Streets close from 9 to noon along Frederick, Middleton, Bardstown and Larchmont. Expect police, a fire truck, color guard, scouts and a short memorial service at Glacier Highlands Park. It's one of the oldest neighborhood traditions in town, honoring Michigan service members who didn't come home. MLive

ποΈ U-M Just Bought a Whole Campus for $60 Million
The Regents approved a $60 million purchase of 140 acres of Concordia's old campus at 4090 Geddes Road on Thursday. That's the riverfront land off Geddes, about three and a half miles east of Central Campus. U-M says it's planning "decades in advance" but won't say what for. The deal closes by June 30. Concordia was sitting on a $16 million mortgage and a campus barely used since they shut down in-person classes last year. University Record

π 330 Affordable Units Coming to Downtown
Governor Whitmer and the Michigan Strategic Fund cleared the way Tuesday for a 20-story affordable housing tower on Fifth Avenue, next to the Blake Transit Center. Total investment: $209 million. Every one of the 330 one- and two-bedroom units is reserved for residents earning 30% to 80% of Area Median Income. It's the largest all-affordable residential development in Michigan in more than 40 years. Michigan.gov

ποΈ City Council Passes a $650M Budget
Council approved the FY 2026-27 budget Monday night. Headlines: three new firefighter positions, one new police officer, $2 million for a new police records system, $3 million from the climate millage for the Sustainable Energy Utility, $30 million for road resurfacing, and $15.7 million for social services. Shibam Coffee Co. is doing a soft opening in early June at 414 S. Main St., pending health-department approval. It's family-run, the 15th-or-so location in the country, and named after the ancient Yemeni city famous for its mud-brick skyscrapers. The seafood spot at 302 S. Main St. (right at the corner where the old Starbucks used to be) added lunch service on May 6. Hours are 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday. Citizen Yoga is back at the Big House on Saturday, August 8 for their annual all-levels yoga class on the field with 1,000+ Michiganders, raising money this year for Garrett's Space and TRAILS to Wellness, two local nonprofits focused on youth mental health and suicide prevention. P.P.P.P.P. S. - Getting closer to peak peony bloom at Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum. The W.E. Upjohn Peony Garden puts up over 10,000 flowers at peak (late May through early June). Keep an eye on the bloom tracker to time it.
