Facebook | Your Media Exchange

🎵 Your Media Exchange: After a year of slow sales, Your Media Exchange (319 Main Street) announced that it would close its Ann Arbor location. The owners are currently focusing on their Toledo location, but hope to reopen an Ann Arbor location in the future with more building space and parking. Starting tomorrow, everything in the store will be 10% off.

Garrett’s Space

🌳 Garrett’s Space: Last week, construction began on Garrett’s Space, a new 76-acre mental health campus. Ann Arbor residents Scott and Julie Helbert lost their son to suicide in 2017, and since then, they have made it their mission to offer help to other young people facing mental health challenges. The new campus supports people between 18-28 years old who are “struggling with depression and/or anxiety who can benefit from being in a safe, supportive, and healing environment and see that they’re not alone in their struggles.” More information about what the space offers is here. It is expected to be fully operational by 2027.

La Serre

🍷 La Serre Opens: A new French restaurant, La Serre, is opening at the Vanguard hotel tomorrow (201 Glen Avenue). La Serre, which means Greenhouse in French, will have a seasonal menu. Michael Polsinelli, the Executive Chef, said, “We’re honoring the simplicity of traditional French cuisine but bringing in the vibrancy of Michigan’s farms, lakes, and food artisans.” The restaurant will eventually serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late-night snacks, but is starting with just breakfast and dinner at its opening this Tuesday. Click here to see a menu.

Also, in related news – the Vanguard hotel, which La Serre is located within, is opening next Tuesday, May 13th.

🍕 Pizza Cat Max’s: So long, Hot Cheetos Pizza. After just 6 months in business, Pizza Cat Max (640 Packard Street) permanently closed. Known for its bold pizza toppings and 1980s theme, Pizza Cat Max was the 9th restaurant to open and close at this location in the last 40 years.

Facebook | Black Pearl

⚫️ Black Pearl Expands: Last week, Black Pearl finished their expansion into the old Starbucks location on the corner of Main and Liberty. In addition to doubling their square footage, the restaurant also launched a sushi menu. In an Instagram post, Black Pearl wrote, “Drumroll please! We’ve been waiting to show you what we’ve been working on all this time…We can’t wait for you to dine with us in our new larger, brighter, renovated space!”

Dragon Lawyers

🐲 Dragon Lawyers: An East Lansing attorney who markets himself as “Dragon Lawyers PC” has received national attention after filing a 12-page federal complaint featuring a watermarked purple dragon in a suit on each page. Yes, each page. U.S. Magistrate Judge Ray Kent wasn’t amused, “The Court is not a cartoon,” he wrote, ordering the attorney to refile “without the dragon.” The Dragon Lawyer defended his $20 logo but says he’ll comply, though he still insists “people like dragons” and wants his pleadings to “stand out.”
